XRP became available to OSL HK retail clients from 8:00 p.m. HKT on 29 July. Learn what XRP is, which trading routes are supported and how to buy it through Flash Trade.

XRP is now available to retail investors on OSL HK. Trading is scheduled to open at 8:00 p.m. Hong Kong time on 29 July 2026, giving eligible retail clients a licensed Hong Kong route to buy, sell, deposit and withdraw XRP.

This guide explains what XRP is, how the new access works and the steps required to buy it through OSL HK. It also covers the difference between Flash Trade and over-the-counter trading, plus the details users should check before transferring XRP.

What is XRP?

XRP is the native digital asset of the XRP Ledger, an open-source blockchain network that has operated since 2012. The network is designed to move and exchange value, while XRP is used to pay transaction costs and support transfers on the ledger.

XRP and the XRP Ledger are related but not interchangeable terms. The XRP Ledger is the underlying network. XRP is the asset that moves on it.

That distinction matters when users deposit or withdraw XRP. OSL HK's announcement specifies the XRP Ledger as the supported network. Users should follow the network, address and any tag or memo instructions shown by OSL before confirming a transfer.

What has changed for Hong Kong retail investors?

OSL HK previously offered XRP to professional investors. The new launch extends access to eligible retail clients.

According to OSL's announcement, retail users will have the following routes:

Route

Supported pair

Best suited to

Flash Trade

XRP/USD

Retail users who want a live quote and a simple buy or sell flow

OTC trading

XRP/USD and XRP/HKD

Users whose transaction size or execution needs are better suited to an OTC service

XRP Ledger transfer

XRP deposits and withdrawals

Users moving XRP between OSL HK and a compatible external wallet or platform

Flash Trade is the clearest route for most retail users. It presents a quoted price instead of asking the user to place an order on an order book. The quote is refreshed with market conditions, so users should review the final amount and current terms before confirming.

How to buy XRP through OSL HK Flash Trade

The announced Flash Trade pair is XRP/USD. The following steps reflect OSL HK's current Flash Trade process.

1. Log in and complete account verification

Sign in to an existing OSL HK account or complete the onboarding and identity verification process for a new account. New clients should review the latest account-opening and initial-deposit requirements before transferring funds.

2. Fund the account

Deposit supported fiat currency into the Funding Account using the instructions shown in OSL HK. The bank account used for onboarding and deposits may need to be held in the client's own name.

The onboarding deposit requirement is separate from the amount a user eventually chooses to trade. Check the current minimums, processing times and banking instructions in the app or on the OSL HK support site.

3. Move USD to the Flash Trade Account

In the OSL app, open Assets, select the relevant account and transfer USD from the Funding Account to the Flash Trade Account.

On the web platform, open Wallet, select USD, choose the Flash Trade Account as the destination, enter the amount and submit the transfer.

Users who hold HKD should note that the announced Flash Trade pair is XRP/USD. They may need to convert HKD to USD first, subject to current product availability and conversion terms. XRP/HKD is listed as an OTC pair, not a Flash Trade pair.

4. Open Flash Trade and choose Buy

Go to Flash Trade, select Buy, then choose XRP/USD.

5. Enter the amount and review the quote

Enter either the amount of XRP to buy or the amount of USD to spend. Review the live quote, the XRP quantity to be received and any applicable terms before proceeding.

Digital asset prices can move quickly. A displayed quote may refresh if it is not accepted within the available time.

6. Confirm the purchase

Select Buy to confirm. After execution, check the transaction record and XRP balance in the relevant account.

Retail users do not need to withdraw XRP after buying it. Anyone who chooses to transfer XRP to an external wallet should first confirm that the receiving service supports the XRP Ledger and should copy every address, tag or memo exactly as displayed.

Flash Trade or OTC: which route should a user choose?

Flash Trade is designed for a simpler quoted-price experience. It can suit a retail user who knows the amount they want to buy or sell and wants to review a live price before confirming.

OTC trading is a separate execution route. OSL's announcement lists both XRP/USD and XRP/HKD for retail OTC access, but eligibility, minimum size and execution procedures may differ from Flash Trade. Users considering OTC should check the current terms with OSL HK rather than assuming the Flash Trade instructions apply.

Neither route removes price risk. A convenient execution method changes how a trade is placed, not how XRP may perform after purchase.

Why is XRP retail access limited to a licensed process?

Hong Kong licensed virtual asset trading platforms do not automatically offer every widely traded token to retail users. Before admitting a virtual asset, a platform must conduct due diligence covering matters such as the asset's operating history, liquidity, technical design, governance, legal status and financial crime risks. Ongoing monitoring is also required after admission.

XRP joins BTC, ETH, SOL and LINK among the digital assets currently made available by OSL HK to retail clients. OSL says it is the first Hong Kong exchange to open XRP trading to retail investors.

Retail admission does not mean the regulator recommends XRP or guarantees its value. It means the asset is being offered through a licensed platform that is responsible for applying token-admission controls and continuing review.

What should users check before buying or transferring XRP?

Before confirming a trade, check:

  • whether the selected service is Flash Trade or OTC;

  • whether the pair is XRP/USD or XRP/HKD;

  • the live quote, transaction amount and current fees or limits;

  • whether XRP fits the user's risk tolerance and financial circumstances; and

  • the latest OSL HK product terms and risk disclosures.

Before sending XRP, check:

  • that the selected network is the XRP Ledger;

  • the full receiving address;

  • any destination tag, memo or other information requested by the receiving service; and

  • whether the receiving wallet or platform supports XRP deposits.

Blockchain transfers can be irreversible. A small test transfer may help users verify the destination before moving a larger amount, where the platform's minimums and fees permit it.
