What is Maker, What is Taker?
Maker
A maker is someone who addsliquidity to the market.
This happens when you place an order that doesn’t get filled immediately, but instead stays in the order book.
Example: You set a limit order to buy Bitcoin at $30,000 while the market price is $30,200. Your order waits until a seller agrees.
👉 By adding orders to the book, you are “making” the market.
👉 Makers usually pay lower fees because they help keep the exchange liquid.
Taker
A taker is someone who takes liquidity from the market.
This happens when you place an order that matches instantly with an existing order.
Example: You place a market order to buy Bitcoin right away at $30,200. It matches an existing sell order immediately.
👉 By matching with an existing order, you are “taking” liquidity.
👉 Takers usually pay higher fees because they use the liquidity that makers provide.
