According to the Securities and Futures Ordinance (Cap. 571, \"SFO\") of Hong Kong, a professional investor includes institutional professional investors, corporate professional investors, and individual professional investors. Institutional professional investors refer to entities defined under Part 1, Section 1(a) to (i) of Schedule 1 of the SFO, such as recognized stock exchanges, recognized clearing houses, intermediaries, authorized financial institutions, licensed insurers, recognized collective investment schemes, registered mandatory provident fund schemes, occupational retirement schemes, and the government. Corporate professional investors refer to trust corporations, corporations, or partnerships as defined under Sections 4, 6, and 7 of the Securities and Futures (Professional Investors) Rules (Cap. 571D, \"the PI Rules\"). According to the PI Rules, trust corporations must hold total assets of not less than HKD 40 million (or its equivalent in foreign currency); corporations or partnerships must hold an investment portfolio of not less than HKD 8 million (or its equivalent in foreign currency), or total assets of not less than HKD 40 million (or its equivalent in foreign currency). Individual professional investors refer to individuals as defined under Section 5 of the PI Rules who hold an investment portfolio of not less than HKD 8 million (or its equivalent in foreign currency), including cash, deposits, and securities as defined by the SFO.
